Dear Alice, I first read The Snow Goose as a young teenager and it has stayed with me ever since [ i am now 84 ] i have reread it many times over the years , but reading how you at such a young age loved it like i do, I feel wow! You are the first person I have come across who reacts to the book the same as I do. I have spoken of this book to many people over the years but nobody has read it which I find very strange. thank you for what you have written, best regards Virginia Browne

What a lovely reminiscence this was! I have just read the Snow Goose, and after reading around the subject, discovered that the artist Sir Peter Markham Scott (an ornithologist and wildlife painter, among other things) illustrated the book, and apparently based his picture of the girl holding the goose on his wife at the time, famous novelist Elizabeth Jane Howard (author of wonderful war time literature like the Cazelets). Wonderful connections!
