For James and Luanne of Portland: You don’t believe how much I relished reading your report from Becherel. And how glad I am that you, too, love Chateaubriand. Yes, I also remember “the heights of Becherel silhouetted against the sky”. And the very next sentence: “Une terasse bordee de grands buis tailles circulait au pied du chateau.. ” You do not even have to know French to feel the beauty of that man’s language, how it flows, on the border of prose and poetry. And the beauty of the countryside you describe, and the rare island of civilization that comes through in your tale. I hope you will write more things. Looking forward to the next. Herb and Joan
