Crêpe Tournament in Providence, Rhode Island

The Alliance Française de Providence, Rhode Island, is one of the most dynamic in the U.S. to judge by the many Francophilic classes and culinary, cultural, and speaking events they organize.

Today we received word that the Alliance is holding a “crêpe tournament” on Feb. 7. Competitors are invited to bring a minimum of 20 sweet or savory crêpes for the judges to taste. Sounds very appetizing… except that the dishes have to be pre-prepared and pre-cooked, since the crêpes are can only be heated, by microwave, at the tournament.

Already, reheated crêpes fail to maintain their taste and texture for long and should be eaten as quickly as possible after reheating. Nuked crêpes are even more challenged in that respect. And miking them with filler inside makes them sound like airplane lasagna.

Anyway, good luck to the competitors. Please send a picture of the winning crêpes and their creators after the tournament.

In other AF de Provence news, Jean-Louis Bruguière, the High Representative of the European Union in the United States for the fight against financing of terrorism, will be speaking at the Alliance on Feb. 2.

We don’t imagine that he’ll be staying around for the Crepe-off.
